YUP! That’s what I have right now.
I walk in May with my fellow batch-mates and its nerve wrecking. What part of it . . . you may ask; ALL OF IT. The before, during and of course the after are all phases that contribute to my low-key nervous breakdown.
The before, being an International Student is definitely way more overwhelming and uncertain than being a student of American Nationality. There’s a systematic Visa approval process involved which demands your attention and precision with documentation. Besides having my papers in place, I need to pick the most suitable date for the commencement of my Visa-related stay in the USA. Maintaining the timing and sequence of things can really tick sometimes.
Besides, I simultaneously have to search for a appropriate job which fits my Major and field of interest like all graduates. However, here’s the catch, only employers who offer or plan to offer a Visa sponsorship can employe me (an International Student) which in turn limits the options of employers.
The during, will be the peak of emotional, mental as well as financial instability since I shall not be eligible to work in the USA until my approval date. This not puts me in a financial limbo but also stagnates any potential growth for those months. There are certain travel restrictions that need to be followed and practiced during this period of time making it difficult to travel.
Of course, the after, where I shall finally face the real world. I have to prove that the concoction of my skills, abilities and degree together can deliver the required outcome of the job description. Only then will I be deemed as a successful candidate (JK . . . in my head). Handling the daily pressures while trying to balance a social life outside of work, or simply adulting . . . these things can get rough as you go along the way.
Therefore, take it easy. Make a plan. Take baby-steps. Follow your gut. Get advice. Connect with people.
And make it happen!
