The Hectic Final Packing

As Summer winds down and the stress of packing winds up here a few tips to keep calm in the middle of it all.

1) Try making a list – Especially as an incoming freshman it is hard to know what to pack or what not to pack to fill up your tiny new space. There are plenty of resources online however, don’t take them too seriously. You do not absolutely need a floor lamp, wall art or fairy lights to make the room yours.

2) Take a break – In the midst of it all it seems as though there may be a rush to finish it all in one sitting. This is not possible so don’t even try. Do some laundry, go out with friends, play with your pet. Whatever it is that can get you away from this stressful situation.

3) Look up how much space you actually have to work with – Especially coming from an only child household and a huge room, it felt like I wanted to take everything that made my home here, home in Duluth. Whatever you bring or don’t bring, the space will be yours.

4) You will be just fine – This huge new step is the most stressful of all and you may not realize it because the more imminent threat is the packing. Take a deep breath and know that whether or not your sheets match your cover or the microwave does not match your fridge, the space will be your own to live in and explore for the next 9 months. You will be just fine.
